John David Lax, known as "John" was born November 5, 1869, the son of Joseph L. and Eliza Ann Cook Lax of the Middleburg Community of Hardeman County, Tennessee. He grew to manhood in Hardeman County and was educated in the public schools. On January 8, 1896, he was married to Miss Rose E. Barnett, born January 24, 1880, the daughter of J. Knox and Elizabeth Shearin Barnett of Hardeman County. They were the parents of the following children: Celia, Alice, Lucy, Ernest R., Nellie, Joe, Louise, Ruth, Clara and Evelyn.

John David Lax was a farmer and a Mason and a deeply religious man who won the respect and admiration of his many associates. He departed this life September 29, 1959. His wife, Rose E. Barnett preceded him in death many years before on May 6, 1932. They were both buried in the Middleburg Cemetery.
